JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
*Because they deal with customers all day, shuttle bus drivers must have good customer service skills. *They must be polite and professional, and make sure passengers are satisfied with their ride. *Patience is necessary when dealing with heavy traffic and rude riders and dependability ensures that drivers maintain their schedules.
*Drivers must have the stamina to sit for several hours at a time, and the hand-eye coordination to operate their vehicles while watching their surroundings.
*They may need to occasionally collect payments and give receipts, so they must have basic math skills.
*Shuttle bus drivers must arrive to work on time, drive their vehicles following a set schedule or route, and, often, wear a company uniform.
*They must gain familiarity with their route by studying maps if necessary and reading reports.
*When they drive, they maintain constant contact with the dispatcher and keep track of passenger pickups and drop-offs as necessary.
*When passengers have questions, drivers must respond in a polite and friendly manner, deal with any complaints, and help with luggage as needed.
*If problematic situations escalate, they have to contact the dispatcher or their supervisors.
*Transport passengers on assigned routes.
*Assist passengers with embarking and disembarking.
*Assist passengers with loading and unloading luggage.
*Provide passengers with safety instructions.
*Manage preventive maintenance on the bus.
*Troubleshoot problems with the engine as and when required.
*Excellent command over written and verbal English.
*Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.
*Clean driving record with a valid driver’s license.
*Professional attitude with strong listening skills.
*Working knowledge of GPS and using ordinary maps.
*Bus drivers follow precise schedules and must adjust their driving according to traffic and weather conditions in order to arrive at each stop at the designated time.
*Bus drivers must do their best to avoid accidents and may be responsible for maintaining orderliness among passengers.
School bus drivers must ensure the safety of the children, which may include accompanying students across the street, providing first aid in emergencies and keeping the bus in safe, working condition.
*Bus drivers may also be required to keep records of their commute times and report mechanical issues, delays or other dilemmas. *Transit and intercity bus driver duties may also include collecting fares and guiding passengers in their travels.
*Performs daily inspections as required and promptly reports maintenance issues.
*Assist handicapped passengers on and off the vehicle, ensuring safe transport.
*Keep records of passenger numbers.
*Enforced federal, state and university guidelines for bus riders.
